About the project

The goal of this project is to design and build backend solutions and developer tooling that enable engineering teams to adopt AI and automation safely—without compromising reliability, maintainability, or security.

About the team

We are a newly formed team within KPN with a clear mission: empower engineering teams to deliver high‑quality software by providing a well-defined paved road with agentic capabilities across the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC).

Today, many teams solve the same problems repeatedly: CI pipelines are rebuilt from scratch, environments behave inconsistently, tooling is duplicated, and engineers spend valuable time on manual work that could be automated. Often, solutions already exist elsewhere in the organization—but they are not shared or standardized.

Our philosophy is simple: for developers, by developers.
Our ambition is to extend the paved road into an agent-supported SDLC, enabling teams to plan, design, build, release, and operate software faster—while remaining secure, reliable, and fully in control.

Assignment objective

You will help make this team of senior software engineers successful. While the roadmap is still being defined, you will act as a full-fledged team member, picking up and delivering items from the backlog and actively shaping the direction of the platform.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and developer tooling
• Contribute to scalable and asynchronous systems used across engineering teams
• Help standardize CI/CD pipelines, platforms, and workflows
• Apply and promote testing, automation, and Infrastructure as Code
• Collaborate closely with other engineers to understand their needs and improve their developer experience
• Contribute to an agentic, AI-enabled software delivery lifecycle

What we are looking for

We are looking for a software engineer who builds reliable systems and the community around them. You care deeply about how software is built, how others use it, and you communicate clearly across diverse engineering backgrounds.

You will recognize yourself in several of the following:

• Strong experience building backend services in Python and/or Go
• Experience with scalable and asynchronous applications
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and AWS; Terraform or other IaC tools feel familiar
• Strong belief in testing, automation, and CI/CD as first-class citizens
• Understanding of DevOps, platform engineering, and developer experience concepts
• Enjoy improving systems used by other engineers—and actively talk to them to understand real needs
• Able to make complex technical ideas accessible to people with different backgrounds
• Comfortable navigating technical disagreements in a constructive way
• Curious about AI/LLM capabilities and their practical use in engineering workflows
• Comfortable giving and receiving feedback through code reviews and collaboration
• You care about usability—internal platforms still have users
• Actively contribute to a healthy engineering culture through mentoring, knowledge sharing, and inclusiveness

• You prefer to work heads-down and measure success solely by individual output
• You see communication as a status update rather than a core engineering skill
